In loving memory of Julian Marquis Dixon, a cherished son, grandson, brother, uncle, and father, whose light continues to shine brightly in our hearts despite his sudden departure from this world on April 21, 2009, at the tender age of 25. Born on September 5, 1983, Julian's presence left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Julian's journey began at Leesville High School, where he not only excelled academically but also showcased his talents on the basketball court and in the JROTC program. His dedication and passion were evident in everything he pursued.
Following his graduation, Julian made the brave decision to follow in the footsteps of his beloved dad (our grandfather) by enlisting in the Navy. It was during his time of service that Julian's remarkable contributions were recognized, particularly his role in building the USS Ronald Reagan. His crowning achievement came when he had the privilege to sail on its maiden voyage from Norfolk, VA to San Diego, CA, a testament to his commitment and skill.
Returning home from his military service, Julian's heart remained steadfast in his dedication to serving his community. Known for his spontaneous acts of kindness and love, Julian touched the lives of all who crossed his path, extending invitations to church and spreading warmth wherever he went. His rhythmic talents as the church drummer resonated deeply with those around him, earning him a place of honor and affection in the hearts of many.
Though Julian's time with us was tragically brief, his legacy of love, kindness, and service endures. Today, as we honor his memory, let us also celebrate the joy he brought into our lives and the profound impact he had on our hearts. Julian Marquis Dixon will forever remain a beacon of love and light, guiding us through life's journey with his enduring spirit.
In loving memory of our dearly beloved uncle, husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, (Daddy/Andy), whose legacy of love and service continues to inspire us even after his passing on June 29, 2021, at the age of 89. Born on June 28, 1932, in Amarillo, TX, (Daddy/Andy) touched the lives of countless individuals throughout his remarkable journey.
(Daddy/Andy)'s commitment to service began early in life when he answered the call to duty and joined the US Navy after graduating from high school. Serving during the tumultuous times of the Korean War, he bravely sailed aboard two ships, the Oriskany, and another whose name eludes memory, distinguishing himself as the first and only African American to serve in his platoon during his tenure.
Upon completing his active duty service, (Daddy/Andy) transitioned seamlessly into a career with the Department of Defense as an aircraft mechanic, demonstrating his unwavering dedication and expertise. His contributions to his country and community did not go unnoticed, as he labored tirelessly to ensure the safety and functionality of aircraft, leaving an indelible mark on all who worked alongside him.
In the latter part of his life, (Daddy/Andy) found joy and fulfillment in his marriage to Pastor Carolyn Anderson, with whom he shared a deep bond rooted in faith and love. Together, they embarked on a journey of service and devotion, laying the foundation for what is now known as Greater Love Christian Center. As a devoted deacon, (Daddy/Andy) poured his heart and soul into supporting his pastor and wife, laboring selflessly to bring their shared vision to fruition.
His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched through acts of kindness, compassion, and unwavering faith. Today, as we honor (Daddy/Andy)'s memory, let us also celebrate the profound impact he had on our lives and the legacy of love and service he leaves behind. Though he may no longer be with us in body, his spirit will forever guide and inspire us as we continue his work of spreading love and kindness in our community and beyond.
