Mya was born with lipomyelomeningocele (pronounced lipo-my-elo-men-IN-go-seal) is a birth defect that affects a child's backbone (spine). A lipomyelomeningocele is a fatty mass under the skin on the child's back. It is usually in the middle of the back. The mass attaches to the spinal cord and may slowly pull on the cord. back and missing a good chuck of vertebrae. This little warrior survived a 19 hr surgery at 8 months old to detether her spine. She endured additional surgeries over the years but she continues to fight the good fight like no other!
